A new five storey apartment building in Putney, South West London. Comprising underground car park, eight spacious apartments with balconies and a large penthouse with roof terraces. The building has a NHBC Warranty and achieves Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 with solar generation for common parts and green roof construction.

Alteration and extension of 19th Century detached dwelling house in a Conservation Area including complete internal reconstruction and reinstatement of original gable form. The extended property includes a new basement under the original house and 50% of the garden and a cantilevered stone feature staircase linking the property through all floors.

A new eight storey limestone clad apartment building on an enclosed corner site in central London.

Within the constraints of a small site footprint and neighbours' rights to light, the opportunity has been taken to create five apartments of varying sizes, and a two storey penthouse maisonette. The building envelope sets back at the upper levels to prevent overshadowing of surrounding properties.

The creation of eight serviced apartments and two penthouses over office and ancillary facilities.

Demolition and rebuilding works took place whilst maintaining the existing basement tenant in operation throughout.

Casson Conder Partnership obtained planning permission and Conservation Area consent to demolish and rebuild the building and provided full architectural services through design development, tender, and construction.

Change of use / building conversion to form six apartments with pub/restaurant premises below. Works included complete reordering of internal layouts, new building services, fit out of interiors and finishes, refurbishment and repair of external building envelope. A high standard of finished product was achieved for relatively low costs through intelligent design decisions, facillitating the client finding tenants for all flats within a week of completion.

Alteration, extension and full refurbishment of a secluded 1920s Georgian style house within mature private grounds. A new wrap around glass extension links courtyard outbuildings with the original house and a redesigned orangery type extension forming a large kitchen dining family space opening on to a rear terrace and garden. Further rear extension to the main building allowing space for a cantilevered Portland stone staircase.

Conversion of Grade II Listed Building in Mayfair from offices to form three maisonettes and one apartment. Works involved internal alterations, conservation of original features, installation of new building services, fit out of new interiors and finishes, creation of roof top terrace, restoration of external building envelope.

The alteration, extension, and full refurbishment of a Grade II Listed house and out-buildings. Originally a prebendal manor house built in the 17th century to a typical Great House H-plan. Various modifications and additions had been made in the 18th and subsequent centuries. The new work has included improvements to the principal south elevation of the house,  incorporating the reinstatement of a central window on the first floor and the reconstruction of the dormers with hipped roofs in place of gables.

Existing outbuilding were converted to staff living accommodation requiring internal alterations, renewal of roof, restoration of building fabric, installation of new building services and fit out of new interiors and finishes.

Award winning new build family beach house in North Wales. Single storey dwelling in an environmentally challenging location. The scale and siting of the building has been carefully considered so that it comfortably sits at the edge of the beach maximising the sea views whilst ensuring comfortable shelter from sometimes extreme sea and weather conditions.

Materials were chosen not only to compliment the tones of the environment but also for their durability and low maintenance in order to provide a building with longevity, suitable for its exposed coastal location.

The house won a Federation of Master Builders 2019 award for the best new home in Wales.

When our client acquired this Grade II Listed building it had been undergoing refurbishment and rebuilding by the previous owners and an extensive sub basement had been constructed. However the works had been abandoned. The brief was to replan the accommodation to provide an optimum residential layout. This was met by designing a mix of substantial flats and maisonettes looking onto Hyde Park. The detailing and finishes achieved by the project team are of a very high standard, commensurate with the special situation of the building.

Major refurbishment and restoration of Grade II* Listed Devon house including conversion of existing barns and outbuildings as well as a new build swimming pool and spa building. All restoration work was carried out in traditional materials.

Extensive hard and soft landscaping of substantial grounds including creation of a ha-ha, new ponds, pergolas, kitchen garden, as well as a reinstated orchard.

Planning and interior fit out of massage and beauty therapy premises including treatment rooms and shop area. The brief was to create a minimalist and relaxing space enhancing the massage experience.

The conversion and extension of a large office building in landscaped grounds along Chesterton High Street Cambridge to provide sixth form college facilities in a campus environment. Comprising residential accommodation for 250 students and associated academic, social and teaching facilities.

LTHE MCDONALD INSTITUTE FOR ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH
UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE, DOWNING STREET SITE

Two new buildings for the McDonald Institute and landscaping the existing courtyard in which one of the two buildings is located. The design of the smaller courtyard building preserves the most important views of a range of Listed buildings along the Downing Street frontage. The larger building replaces an existing 1940s infill building and reconciles the existing elevations either side through both scale and careful detailing.

MILLFIELD SCHOOL THEATRE AND MATHEMATICS CENTRE
SOMERSET

A mathematics centre and multi purpose school auditorium served by spacious foyers which double as common rooms with attendant dressing rooms, scene dock, workshop and wardrobe. Teaching rooms double up as overflow dressing rooms whilst the Mathematics Department is housed in a wing linked to the earlier buildings of the main school complex.

Two developments on university land providing student accommodation as well as staff flats. Claycroft established a linear layout forming a series of linked landscaped courtyards. Lakeside provides pleasant views of both the newly formed lake and the parkland landscape that borders it, with carefully planned layouts of interconnected courtyards serving as protected access points for all flats.

PLAYING FIELDS AND SPORTS PAVILION
UNIVERSITY OF WARWICK

Relocation of the university’s playing fields and design of a new sports pavilion. This included re-modelling the ground to provide level sports pitches and strategic landscaping and planting providing windbreaks. The sports pavilion comprises changing rooms as well as a social area housed in a low, part single and part two storey building. The pavilion is designed to blend in to the surrounding landscape and be in keeping with the neighbouring Cryfield Old Farm house and its outbuildings.

The project required the radical alteration and transformation of an existing two-storey highly serviced laboratory building, circa 1960s, into a new staff restaurant complete with coffee lounge, deli bar, shop, and exhibition foyer. The building was stripped back to its structure and the interior spaces extensively re-modelled to create an atmosphere of sociability and calm.

11 THE STRAND OFFICE BUILDING
CHARING CROSS, LONDON

A prominent office building flanking the forecourt of Charing Cross Station. The building comprises seven storeys of offices above two storeys of retail space worked in with the slope of the site. On the upper levels corner bay windows provide sites for rooms on axis with Nelson's column in one direction and commanding the Strand in the other. Bays and recesses help to provide a vertical grain and differing window arrangements at different levels establish vertical progression.

85 LONDON WALL / 53 NEW BROAD STREET OFFICE BUILDINGS
CITY OF LONDON

Two new office buildings for Trafalgar Developments Ltd on the edge of the City of London Conservation Area. The designs needed to reflect the scale and character of the Conservation Area and have a richness of texture and modelling not normally associated with speculative office buildings. The facade of 85 London Wall consists of deeply recessed mullioned window panels in conjunction with semi-projecting bays designed to solve the problems of turning the corner at the prominent acute angle of the site.

A new building accommodating barristers' chambers in the historic gardens of Lincoln’s Inn in central London.

PARKLANDS CIVIC OFFICES
BASINGSTOKE

Civic Offices sited between two listed buildings forming a pedestrian courtyard around an existing War Memorial. The top storey is set back to avoid an overbearing presence and provide a considered elevation of the building on approach from the town. A large building is assimilated into the street scene, stepping down the hill from the earlier civic buildings to the tiny public house beyond.

PHARMACEUTICAL

The practice has worked on a number of laboratories for educational and commercial clients including University College London, Sandoz, Novartis and Eisai. These include Chemistry, Biology and Neuropharmalogy facilities.

BERNARD KATZ LABORATORIES AND RESEARCH BUILDING
UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON, BLOOMSBURY

Highly serviced laboratories and related research facilities for the Advanced Centre for Biological Engineering. The building is designed in two distinct sections, one semi-subterranian with a garden terrace as its roof and the other section forming a five storey extension complimenting the neighbouring Grade I Listed building by William Wilkins.

New build three storey building for the Students’ Union linking to the existing Union building. Lightweight partitions within a modular frame system gives flexibility for future rearranging of the internal space. Forming the main circulation spine, the atrium space allows daylight to flood into the heart of the building. The design also uses stack effect cooling, natural ventilation and brise soleil in order to create a building with a naturally controlled internal environment minimising its energy use.

Retail facilities integrated within the Student Union North building including the campus store, print shop, a post office and licenced bar. The adjoining Mall was also fully refurbished in order to introduce more natural light and provide a pleasant retail area.

LONDON ZOO, LONDON

The Elephant and Rhinoceros Pavillion at London Zoo was completed in 1964 and is now Grade II* listed. The building occupies a central position within the Zoo and was the first major building to implement the 1956 redevelopment plan. In plan the building is based on a group of animals around a watering place and was designed to provide its inhabitants with a healthy, comfortable and easily manageable environment as well as displaying them to the public to their best advantage.

SOUTH KENSINGTON, LONDON

Designed for the Ismaili Muslim Community, the building provides for religious, cultural and social needs and serves a large number of people for a variety of formal and informal occasions. On a prominent island site there was an opportunity for a building of presence conceived in the round. In scale it is appropriate to the houses that lie to the south whilst still relating to the public and institutional buildings for which South Kensington is famous. The Ismaili Centre was to be foremost a London building with exterior colours and materials compatible with surrounding architecture whilst respecting traditional Islamic values.

Client: University College London

A scheme for the completion of the Gower Street frontage of the college. Since the 1920s the main entrance here had been flanked by the toothed ends of unfinished wings. Completed in 1986, the new work follows the lines and profiles established by Wilkin's original building. The wings were extended by twin square pavilions that break forward and rise higher than the existing elevations. These together with the two reconstructed entrance lodges frame the view both into and out of the Quadrangle.
